First Look: Allbirds Tree Dasher Performance Running Shoe
Allbirds introduced the newest series in its sustainable footwear line; the Allbirds Tree Dasher. The company says these shoes are engineered for performance and that they’ve been tested by more than 50 amateur and professional athletes before being released to the public earlier this year.
We’re very excited to see an athletic option from Allbirds, especially one that’s made as sustainably as these. Allbirds is one of the first casual shoe manufacturers to deliver a running shoe made from natural products to the mainstream market. The company says the carbon footprint of these shoes is as much a 30% less than competing products, and they’re made with natural materials, unusual for most running shoes. The company also claims its purchasing carbon offsets for the remaining carbon through a carbon fund.
The natural components of this shoe are renewable, but unfortunately, they’re not recyclable or biodegradable. This means that there’s still a lot more sustainability work to be done in the footwear arena, but we’re glad to see the continued innovation in this space, and we look forward to a day when there will be a circular athletic shoe option available to the mainstream public.
If you are new to Allbirds and you’re not looking specifically for an athletic trainer or running shoe, we definitely suggest checking out the company’s Wool Runner, Tree Runner, or Mizzler lines. If you already own a pair or two of these, or if you’re specifically looking for an athletic trainer, the Allbirds Tree Dashers are a great option.
